If you reduce Rolex to its essential elements, this is a compelling expression of the idea. Among collectors, the vintage Oysterdate is prized for its versatility and the sheer breadth of configurations in which it was produced.
This particular example stands out not only for its great condition and exceptionally clean dial, but because the dial itself is the defining feature. While its sunburst, or soleil (French for sun), finish radiates outward from the center, catching and shifting with the light, the real detail lies in the subtle Sigma markings.
Flanking the “Swiss” designation at six o’clock, the small σ symbols indicate solid gold hands and hour markers, a discreet but meaningful signifier of quality that seasoned collectors know to look for.
The Sigma markings were the result of an effort made by l'Association pour la Promotion Industrielle de l'Or (APRIOR), a Swiss watch industry trade association, to emphasize the value of watches using gold material.
CONDITION
This watch is in great and honest condition, featuring a robust case. Ther dial is very clean, free of stains or marks, exhibits minimal, almost imperceptible signs of wear, appearing virtually flawless. The lume on the dial and hands is fully intact with minimal deterioration, a feature that delights us.
The bracelet remains in good condition, showing honest wear consistent with age, but nothing excessive. It dates to 1972, which is not uncommon for vintage examples like this, and wears securely on the wrist. With 11 links, it will comfortably fit wrists up to approximately 17.4 cm in circumference.
It has been fully serviced and keeps a fantastic time.
