Universal Genève has enjoyed a well-deserved resurgence in recent years, with much of the attention naturally falling on its early chronographs and Polerouters. But there is plenty to discover beyond them, and this unusual Tank-Normale-style watch is a perfect example.
The white enamel dial, crisp black Roman numerals, heat-blued Breguet hands, and blue cabochon crown, all housed in a slim steel case, make for a wonderfully restrained combination. The case itself is beautifully proportioned, with subtle architectural details that reveal just how much thought went into the original design.
Most comparable examples we’ve encountered house thicker automatic movements; here, the manually wound caliber allows for slimmer, more refined proportions and it makes a real difference on the wrist.
We’ve yet to come across another quite like it, particularly in this condition. For someone drawn to the classic Tank Normale formula but looking for something decidedly less expected, this is a compelling alternative.
CONDITION
This watch remains in great overall, unpolished condition. The case is sharp, with well-defined edges and only light surface marks along the sides. The enamel dial is particularly well preserved, free of cracks or hairlines, while the original hands remain in equally fine condition.
