*RARE* 1970 Eterna-Matic KonTiki 20 | Ref. 130FTT | Gay Frères Bracelet

WHY IS THIS WATCH IMPORTANT

This watch is more than just a beautiful-looking one,  we have bought, sold, and collected Eterna Kontikis for a while now and we've never seen another dial with this configuration before. A rare and stunning slate blue ring makes it pretty unique and very collectible.

Eterna has been here since 1856 so there's a lot of history to take into consideration when talking about this brand.

This particular model was named after The Kon-Tiki expedition that was a 1947 journey by raft across the Pacific Ocean from South America to the Polynesian islands, led by Norwegian explorer and writer Thor Heyerdahl. The raft was named Kon-Tiki after the Inca god Viracocha, for whom "Kon-Tiki" was said to be an old name.

Heyerdahl believed that people from South America could have reached Polynesia during pre-Columbian times, Heyerdahl and five companions sailed the raft for 101 days over 6,900 km (4,300 miles) across the Pacific Ocean before smashing into a reef at Raroia in the Tuamotus on August 7, 1947. The crew made successful landfall and all returned safely.

 CONDITION

This watch is in overall very nice condition, the case remains strong with some scratches. the case back medallion made of gold is still present and sharp. The dial shows some aging and patina thought it, especially some color missing around 11  o'clock, the minute hand has lost some of its tritium fill.

The crown is correctly unsigned for this model. 

The watch is in running condition keeps good time for a watch of its age.
