This is an exceptional and rare Eterna black gilt dial watch, encased in a sought-after “Clamshell” waterproof case. Produced in the 1940s, this Eterna features a beautiful glossy gilt dial. Additionally, the watch is in excellent condition. The case is unpolished and razor-sharp, while the dial remains incredibly glossy and remarkably well-preserved.

As the story goes, in 1936, Schmitz Frères et Cie of Grenchen filed a patent (No. 189190) for a three-piece watch case, where the movement is encapsulated in a steel “Clamshell”, It consists of a three-part case, one part fitted over a unique flared crystal, pressed to the center body, those two parts are then clamped together and screwed down at four different points under each lug. This was a revolutionary design adopted by a few brands and now they are among the most sought-after chronograph designs.

The watch is in great condition, the case is very sharp and unpolished, and the dial is clean and bright glossy.

The watch has just been fully serviced and keeps a great time.
