While Omega is most often associated with the Speedmaster and its role in space exploration, the brand’s creative range has always been far broader. Well before the era of tool chronographs, Omega was producing watches that balanced mechanical ingenuity with daring aesthetics. Among the most distinctive are the Scarab-inspired wristwatches of the 1930s, defined by their sculptural, claw-like lugs and strong Art Deco character. Drawing on the ancient Egyptian scarab, an enduring symbol of the sun, renewal, and transformation, these watches stand as some of the most expressive designs of the period.
The oversized example seen here is exceptional by any measure. Scarab models are scarce to begin with, but finding one in such an impressive state of preservation is exceedingly uncommon. The case remains crisp and well defined, showing only minimal wear, while the original bullseye dial is nothing short of remarkable: clean, vibrant, and likely the finest we’ve encountered. For collectors seeking the finest vintage Omega, this Scarab leaves little room for comparison.
CONDITION
This watch is in overall outstanding condition; the case is sharp on the edges. There are very small and few marks on the case sides made when opening the caseback. The dial is just perfect, free of marks or scratches, bright and clean.
Paired with a later original 16mm steel Omega buckle, probably from the 50s.
The watch was just fully serviced.
The amplitude is 225°, the Rate 4s/d.
