WHY IS THIS WATCH IMPORTANT

Producing calendar watches has been a longstanding tradition for Vacheron Constantin. Its earliest documented complex timepiece, dating back to 1790, was a full calendar. However, it wasn't until 1942 with the introduction of reference 4240 that this complication became a regular feature in the brand's collection, departing from its previous sporadic existence.

These refined timekeeping pieces were offered in various case metals and dial options. All versions, except for the moon-phase variation, housed the manually wound caliber V495.

Crafted from 18Kr rose gold, its 35mm case boasts a charming fluted design and elegant claw lugs. The captivating patinated salmon-pink dial features a unique two-tone pattern, with the day, month, and date in Italian elegantly showcased in red through thoughtfully placed apertures and a central hand tracing a vivid calendar track. This watch is more than just timekeeping; it's a work of art that seamlessly blends beauty and functionality.

Since this specific kind of timepiece constituted a minor fraction of Vacheron Constantin's manufacturing output, locating them proves to be quite challenging, rendering them a scarce delight for collectors with refined tastes.
