1960s Eterna-Matic Chronometer Centenaire | Cal 1439U

WHY IS THIS WATCH IMPORTANT

Eterna has been here since 1856 so there's a lot of history to consider when talking about this brand.

This Eterna-Matic Centenaire Chronometer is in outstanding condition, unpolished, all original including the signed plexiglass.

You don’t often find a Chronometer-certified Centenaire in this condition, also, this one has the gold medallion with the coat of arms of the Schild family. The founder of Eterna company.

The appearance of a ¨Chronometre¨ writing on the dial makes it even more special, If a watch is referred to as a chronometer, it has passed intense precision tests over a 15-day period and has obtained an official rate certificate from the COSC, which is the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute. These tests measure the movement of the watch towards a set of accuracy. In order to receive this certification, the watch must remain within +6 and -4 seconds per day. Only around 3% of all Swiss watches achieved this certification.

CONDITION

This watch is in great overall condition, with an unpolished and sharp case with some light micro scratches.  The dial is clean with only a couple of micro marks, hard to be seen by the naked eye.
Inside the case back we can see a couple of small scratches probably made during the opening and closing of the back.
The plexiglass has the logo in the center and is the original one.
The minute hand had lost some of its tritium fill but has been stabilized.

The watch is in running condition and keeps good time for a watch of its age.
